Ukraine's Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, Lyudmila Denisova, announced on Monday that 38 children have died and 71 have been injured since the beginning of Moscow's invasion of Ukraine.Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24 and has conducted a multi-pronged offensive across the country since then. According to the UN, more than 1.3 million people have left Ukraine since the fighting began. As Russia's invasion of Ukraine enters its twelfth day, both sides have suffered heavy casualties. Russia's defence ministry said that 498 Russian soldiers had died in Ukraine and another 1,597 had been wounded since the beginning of Moscow's military operation there.Meanwhile, the United Nations Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine on March 3 said that it had recorded 249 civilian deaths and 553 wounded during the first week of the conflict following Russia's invasion. However, the true numbers are probably "considerably higher". Most of the civilian casualties have been reported to be caused by the use of explosive weapons with a wide impact area, including shelling from heavy artillery and multi-launch rocket systems, and missile and air strikes.
