The world football body FIFA World Cup on Monday (February 28) banned all Russian football teams from international events including the upcoming World Cup later this year. This effectively expels the 2018 FIFA World Cup hosts from the 2022 World Cup. Russia were due to play a World Cup playoff game against Poland on March 24. But Poland had already refused to play against Russia.

Russia have taken part in 4 World Cup tournament since December 1991.
