In the crucial two-phase elections held so far in Uttar Pradesh, former Congress President Rahul Gandhi has distanced himself from campaigning and the responsibility of the entire battle has been taken by the state's in-charge and Congress General Secretary Priyanka Vadra. Party sources said that although Rahul Gandhi's name was included in the list of star campaigners in the state, he is keeping a distance from the election campaign due to the lack of prospects of the Congress in Uttar Pradesh. The party will not get as many seats as it was expecting. The party has been contesting all the seats in the state on its own in the last two decades. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra remains the biggest star campaigner in Uttar Pradesh and other states. There is a program to attend Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi on the occasion of Ravidas Jayanti in Varanasi on Wednesday, but till now no election campaign program has been released by the party. Sources said that after the elections in Punjab, Rahul Gandhi is expected to participate in the Uttar Pradesh election campaign. The party is expected to get more seats in Punjab. Congress had contested the Uttar Pradesh elections in 2017 in alliance with the Samajwadi Party but had to face defeat badly and got only seven seats. After this, the condition of Congress worsened in the year 2019 and Rahul Gandhi had to face defeat in his stronghold Amethi. Rahul Gandhi had visited Amethi in December 2021 and while participating in the 'Pratigya Yatra' with Priyanka Gandhi said that this is his home and no one can force him to leave from here.
