1. Group them by patterns

Many irregular verbs actually follow hidden patterns:

  • Same in past + past participlemake – made – made, build – built – built
  • -en ending in participlewrite – wrote – written, speak – spoke – spoken, break – broke – broken
  • Vowel change (i → a → u) → sing – sang – sung, drink – drank – drunk

2. Use mini-stories

Example:

  • “He sang a song, then he had sung it many times before.”
  • The story connects past tense with past participle.

3. Rhyming & grouping practice

  • begin – began – begun
  • swim – swam – swum
  • ring – rang – rung
    Practice these in rhyme: “Begin–began–begun, swim–swam–swum, ring–rang–rung!”

4. Flashcards or apps

  • Write the base verb on one side, and past + past participle on the other.
  • Quick daily practice locks them into memory.

  • eat – ate – eaten
  • see – saw – seen
