Russia expresses support for 'One China Policy' after Xi's strong talks with America
Russia said on Friday (July 29) that it supports the 'One China' policy. Russia extended its support to China over Taiwan. The development comes after Chinese President Xi Jinping warned US President Joe Biden that the US should not play with fire on Taiwan.
"Our position on the existence of only one China remains unchanged," Lavrov told reporters in Tashkent. "We have no problem upholding the principle of China's sovereignty."China considers Taiwan its territory and has not ruled out using force to control it.
Chinese Fighting China considers Taiwan its territory and has not ruled out using force to control it. Chinese fighters have repeatedly entered Taiwan's air defense sector in recent days. "We respect China's sovereignty and territorial integrity and believe that no country in the world should have the right to question this or take any provocative or other action," he said.
"We are convinced that such behavior at the international level can only lead to additional tension." China is also strongly opposing the visit of US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan. China's support for Taiwan comes as China puts its weight behind Russia over the Ukraine conflict. Russia's attack on Ukraine has heightened fears that Beijing may similarly follow through on threats to annex its small and closed neighbour.
